anyone knowledgeable with newer camaros?
« on: June 19, 2017, 09:15:40 PM »
my wife has a 2011 camaro, v6, manual trans, 41k miles.  the previous owner put on an aftermarket intake to replace the stock air box.  they built it so that the air cleaner is way down in the fender well, low to the ground.  i've been meaning to replace it with a stock air box or a k&n intake that would be higher up in the engine compartment.  well my procrastination has bitten me in the ass.  we took a sunday drive yesterday and got caught in a major downpour.  on the way home the car started bucking, running rough and the CEL came on as well as Service Stabilitrak.  we made it home.  the intake sucked up water and fouled the maf sensor.  luckily no water got to the motor.  so i took the intake apart and sure enough full of water.  dried it all out.  cleaned the maf sensor with maf cleaner and reinstalled everything.  car runs perfectly fine now however the p0100 code (maf sensor) and service stabilitrac won't clear.

could the maf sensor have gone bad even though the car seems to run fine now after cleaning it?

Does disconnecting the battery for a certain length of time help to clear those codes ?  I was reading about clearing a code once and there was some trickery involved with the ignition switch, turning it on x amount of times, making a sacrifice of a goat and other things  :D  Maybe the dealership or autoshop may have some friendly advice.

Could have fouled the maf.  Got any buddies with a scan tool that will test it?

Leaving the battery disconnected will reset some codes.  However in your case it's maybe maybe not.  Check the camaro5 forum for better information

Most every local auto parts store will read, and some will reset, the codes for you. It's quite possible the deluge actually damaged the Stabilitrak sensor due to immersion.

i've run through all the tricks and gimmicks, no luck.  father inlaw has an obdII reader and attempted to reset codes after reading p0100 which was after the fact of drying everything out and cleaning sensor.  wife ran the vehicle for a good length of time to hopefully achieve "drive cycle".  warning lights still on.  i'll pick up a new sensor today and see if that does the trick.  thanks for the input.

I bet you will be set.  The maf sensor are very finicky when they get dirty and even wet.  Keep us posted and good luck.

I picked up a cheap bluetooth code reader for under $10. I can read the codes and reset them using it and my cell phone.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Wow got a link? I was going to suggest a cheap ODB II reader from Harbor Freight works great but for $10, you can't beat that price.

link please.  yes it's all fixed.  $100 for a maf sensor.  stabilitrak lights went off as did CEL.  soon i'll need to find a stock airbox or a k&n kit.  feeling lucky we didn't suck water into the motor.  til then we'll use the truck on rainy days.
