Hiking the Tetons
« on: June 19, 2017, 05:18:53 PM »
I'm confused.  I'm going to be doing some day hikes in the Tetons this July and I can't get any good information about whether or not I need a pass.

The parks department site is clear that I need a pass for overnight stays - but I'm not staying overnight, just day hiking.
For that they're much less clear.
Do I need a pass to park the bike at trail heads, a pass to enter the park only?

What's the deal with it?

Looks like a motorcycle gets one week entry to GTNP for $25.
One week at GTNP + Yellowstone = $40
Day hikes no fees or permits, backcountry camping different.

Last time I was there I saw a flock (7?) of military helicopters flyby. I was told it was VP Dick Cheney traveling with his entourage to his nearby ranch.

My daughter hiked 18mi, one long day Cascade Canyon, Lake Solitude, Paintbrush Canyon.

You will need a pass to get into the park but not to day hike. I haven't been there in a while but they didn't charge for parking then either.

Okay - thanks.

I take the entry pass is paid at the gates?

I only ask because of how confused the park boundaries are.  Isn't Jackson inside the park?

No, Jackson is not within the park but is surrounded by it.  I was there quite a few years back, it is spectacular but be prepared for all types of weather.  We rode bikes while it snowed in June!  We froze.
