Sweet '73 750 find! video of the unloading condition
« on: June 20, 2017, 09:22:17 AM »
I picked up this 11k 1973 750 yesterday. Great survivor in my opinion and shouldn't need much work to become road worthy. I always replace the bars with superbike bars however with this one the plan is to keep it as is.  I purchased it off the original owner who supplied me with the sales receipt, the wireless alarm system from the 70's with his letters he wrote to the company of the alarm system. He also provided me with the original warranty card! Of all the years I've been on this site not once have I come across this. The sales receipt is really one of my favorite parts. I can only imagine paying for a $1600 bike in 1973 and not have to worry about a loan payment! That's roughly $9028 back in a time when minimum wage was $1.60!

The obvious issue is the dent in the tank. I will be calling places to get an idea if it will be able to be fixed or at least knocked out. It will be a shame if it can't and I have to get a new tank. The front fender does have a bend in it as I will try to remove it. If anyone has an idea how to repair the fender please share! The right mirror will need to be replaced. The pipes do have rust holes although I may run them as is. The slight rust on the exterior of the pipes is coming off rather easily. Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Now the wife can ride again as the VFR isn't her cup of tea for all day riding.

Here are more pics. The chain guard looks brand new and it's has dust all over it. Hopefully I will pick up a battery and check all the electrical however starting it up will have to wait until the tank has the dent popped out.

My, that is a fine survivor!

Yeah, keep that one stock.  I even like the luggage rack. :)

Beautiful!  Bike looks great as is and with a little elbow grease it will look really nice.  Inside of tank looks new and gages have very little fade.  Terrific find!

Thanks All! The face of the gauges are like new! Extremely happy with this bike. Also the clutch grabs like nothing I ever had before in regard to 750s. Oh the pain of not trying to fire it up! Carbs will be pulled however I'm thinking they may be in great shape too

Nice find Nick. To bad about that tank and the paint is so nice. I took a 750 tank into the Dent Doctor and he said these old Honda tanks are so thick they can't pound them out. Maybe drilling holes and pulling it out then a complete repaint would be the only way to salvage it. Or leave it as is unless it bothers you. My 73 CB750 also came with all the  paperwork. That is so cool to see the date it was picked up and the price back then.

My PDR guy could get that out. He removed some dents I thought impossible on an old Triumph and Yamaha tank. If you find a guy familiar with doing old bike tanks and experience you will be good. My guy is in Florida.

That is a shame about the tank, but man does it look clean, like it never had gas in it. Nice find!

Yep, I'd work on popping out that dent and straightening the fender, then just wash and polish and make it go and stop like it should. Then ride it as-is!

Congrats, that bike looks great. I can't believe you were asking me me if it was worth it?!

+1, make some calls and find someone who can pop out the tank dent.  A good PDR guy can do wonders.

I've taken dents out of fenders, that can be fairly simple, you'll have to pull it off.

Started cleaning the rear fender and it's coming out very nice. More amazing is the condition of the carbs. They were drained when the tank was. Spotless!

HEY!
That K3 has K2 gauges! It must be a real early K3!
Out of curiosity: look at the starter solenoid, see if it has 4 terminals on its top.
Also, look to see if there is the remains of a sidestand switch mount and/or a pair of wires hanging near the sidestand. This was parallelled to the clutch-lever START switch. They were all recalled and this switch removed, at one point in winter, 1973.

A precious few of these early K3 bikes had these 2 items, where the 4-pole starter solenoid turned off the headlight instead of the later SPDT Start button (it had a grounding button, like the K2). The 2 extra terminals interrupt power to the 7 amp fuse on the fuseblock, if they are there.

If so, it is a rare one, indeed!
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Please check out "Dent Dynamics" out of California. He can fix your tank. Don't pound, drill or have someone that does not know what they are doing ,mess with and ruin that original tank.
