Congrats Nick that is a great find !  You will have to share the story how you were able to uncover that gem.

I dont think he wants to let out that secret, Eric.

If I remember correctly, the seller was asking a much higher price and I advised Tews to throw him a lowball, and it worked!

I tried posting yesterday, but page took too long to load, the pics I saw were great.
Nice find, unmolested..hate it when they have locking gas cap upgrade.
Looks like early 73 with that head.

HEY!
That K3 has K2 gauges! It must be a real early K3!
Out of curiosity: look at the starter solenoid, see if it has 4 terminals on its top.
Also, look to see if there is the remains of a sidestand switch mount and/or a pair of wires hanging near the sidestand. This was parallelled to the clutch-lever START switch. They were all recalled and this switch removed, at one point in winter, 1973.

A precious few of these early K3 bikes had these 2 items, where the 4-pole starter solenoid turned off the headlight instead of the later SPDT Start button (it had a grounding button, like the K2). The 2 extra terminals interrupt power to the 7 amp fuse on the fuseblock, if they are there.

If so, it is a rare one, indeed!

Im out of town but will check tonight. The bike is an 800 for engine and early 300 for frame.

Here is a pic HM. It has 2 poles, then the 2 screws and 2 flat circular things.

I also found a spare set of keys. If you look closely you can see it hanging in the upper left. Also there was electrical tape on the frame. I removed it and found another key!

Ahh. Forgot to show the back of a side cover. Looks like it recently was unpacked from Honda.

Awesome find. Tresures found after the deal. A nice fulmer helmet in orange flake would set you apart.

Wow!
I haven't seen an electrical panel that clean in years!
It looks to be the 'normal' one, as I don't see an extra Black/Yellow and Black/Brown hanging nearby, which would have gone to that 'rare' solenoid.

Either way, a real beauty! Sweet!

Thanks HM! I have yet to clean the dust off. As far as extra wires I see a few wires coming out of the solenoid. I can look closer though

I'm afraid I won't share that. It wasn't cheap. However it wasn't near me as I drove 5 hrs each way as if my hair was on fire!

As of right now Johnie the bike will remain with the backrest. The wife likes it and it stays for her comfort of course
