I'm going to call it done . .
« on: June 22, 2017, 10:13:32 AM »
I installed the last piece of the project, the front fender. I guess it's now done . .  although I'm sure some things will still take place, they always do. But the design and vision is finished. This is a '77 CB750 F . . .  in sheep's clothing. Thanks for all the help since I started out a CB750 ignoramus  . .but with a vision  :)

Nice paint, Pete.

I bet I missed this somewhere.  I've seen more than a few K bikes with F tanks, but not the other way around.  Any particular reason?

Its more than just a K tank . .look more. The reason is, I wanted it more vintage looking. I don't care for the F look.

I appreciate the compliment. Painting can be learned, give it a shot. I have a friend who has been a friend since we were 9 or 10 I guess. We always built bikes, then motorcycles and finally cars. I was always asked to paint his cars . .etc. But he decided a few years ago he wanted to do his own painting. I helped with advice, materials, tools, etc. He is actually doing great paint jobs now. He is like Mr McGoo as far as speed goes, and I tease him about that . . but the end product is great. He needed help once when I was living in Maryland. He couldn't get the finish right when he was buffing the final paint.I told him what to do, several times. But he needed help. I drove to his house  and in 30 seconds, showed him how to do it and what he was doing wrong. Literally, that is all the time it took. The moral to this story is you are never too old to learn and when you have been shown a few things, you can do amazing work.

May I ask how did you close up the tank to seat gap? I'm doing a 77K that was converted to an F'nK. Now that I own it I want to do the early K look.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

There was no gap. I use an early K seat platform and I attached it to the original F hinges, so the seat hinges just as it did. This is the opposite direction from the early K seats. But everything works fine. I did modify the hinge slightly so the set would sit lower. I really wish it sat lower than it does now.

I forget the name of the exhaust. They are old, but were never used. I bought them here from murdrcycle. Here's a pic of what the bike looked like when I go tit . . for the new comers  :)
