Sandcast - K0 Tank emblems - Need Help!
« on: December 19, 2006, 02:18:39 AM »
Hi All,

I recently sold a pair of gas tank emblems on Ebay that I believed were correct for a 69 and K0 CB750. They were black and I removed them from a early Candy Gold tank I had purchased.  Anyway, I recieved and email from the buyer today and he informed me that they were not from a 69 or a K0 and he did not know what they were from. He said that true 69 and K0 tank emblems had no bumps (pimples as he called them) in the lettering only outside the lettering.  The black emblems I sold him have bumps / pimples in the lettering and are smooth outside the lettering. Can anyone tell me what emblems is correct for a 69 and 70 CB 750.  :)  You can view the emblems here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150068010252&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D150068010252%2509%26fvi%3D1

Best Regards,
Rick

They look correct to me. Ask him to find and send you a picture of what he believes is correct. Is he looking for a refund?

I thought the K0 only came in Candy Ruby Red or Candy Blue Green. Could the tank have come from a later K1? Just a thought, I could be wrong...

jonesy is right according to my Honda bulletin book, First Gold was 71, but was also most popular so could have been retro fitted.

The K0's came in the Gold, Red and Blue/Green.. candy of course. Here's a Troika of sandcasts from the SandcastOnly site.

Thank you all for the replies. Yes, he is wanting to return them and is asking for a full refund or is threatening negative feedback. I'd like to avoid this if possible. It is not my intention to misrepresent anything I sell and I thought my auction was clear when I used the phrase "appears to be from."  If the guy wanted the other type, he should have emailed me prior to bidding and asked.

Can anyone tell me exactly what year my emblems might have come from? If I can't figure it out, I will most likely agree to his request.

I've never been able to see a good close-up of an original set of tank emblems for the K0. I currently have a K2 tank on mine.  :( Any chance you could take a close-up pic and post it? Please, pretty please?  :)

Raul,

Probably so. They take them (sandcasts) pretty seriously on that site.

Here's a close up of mine (with dried wax all over them). I think the guy might be right, but hey... I'm just a hobbyist with extra parts that I don't need. Not an expert.

Also, would anyone mind re-reading my auction description and interpret what it says to you?

Rick,

I think you represented yourself very well.  If you took the emblems off of a Candy Gold Tank, then it was probably a 1970 K0 as opposed to a '69 Sand or Die cast bike.  I wish I could just run out and check on my badges, but the bike is not close.  If this guys wants a refund, agree to it, and just relist them.  It is possible that Honda may have changed the parts as production ran on.

Interestingly, I have a couple of later badges, that have the pimples within the lettering, but where the white paint is chipped, there is black enamel.  It should not be primer, because it would not make sense to use black primer under white paint

You should try to contact World Cycles (where Bob W. got those amazing pictures - DROOOOOL) and ask them if there were any differences between badges and years.  If I am not mistaken - which I very well could be - in 1971, the tank badges were white.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Rick,

After re-reading your auction, I think you were very clear about whether or not it came from a Sandcast.  You stated that you were unsure, therefore, it is the buyer's responsibility to know what he is buying.  On the pics from the 24/7 site, you can very clearly see the pimples in the lettering.  He should have asked questions before bidding, or asked for a better photo before putting in his bid.

I am sure that like me, all of you are sick and tired of everybody using "Sandcast" in their Ebay ads, especially when it clearly is not a Sandcast item!  But in this case, the black lettered tank badges were clearly used on the 1969-1970 Bikes.

I would remind this guy that the auction was fair, and he did not ask the right questions, hence - Caveat Emptor! (I hope the spelling is correct!).  However, if he wants to be a jerk about it, give the refund AFTER you get the part back and go your separate ways.  $62 bucks is pretty fair for black badges considering they are quite a bit more (check out the Yamiya site in Japan).

Anyway, looking through the parts lists at crotchrocket, here are the part numbers for the tank badges:

1969 K0  87121-300-020  replaced by 87121-300-020  which could possibly account for the pimples vs. no pimples

1970 K0  NOT A SEPARATE LISTING, so the same as the 1969 K0

1971 K1  87122-300-030

1971 K2  87122-341-000  Just for comparison....

I'm with Dagersh here, the desription/photos did not misrepresent the badges in any way whatsoever, "sold as is" too. If the buyer no longer needs them he should list them himself.

Back to the issue at hand. I read your Auction and you were honest. You may be looking at buyers remorse, or he faound another set, or he is an a-hole, or all three. I also looked at your feedback and you can tell this guy to scratch. You have 100% feedback with good comments.  I have been trading ebay for 10 years and you can handle a negative with no ill effect. you have a right to comment, and all you need say is "Buyers Remorse". Ebay motors is a pit filled with scammers. If you want to refund his money - he mails it back to you and if it is what you sent him not switched or broken, you refund everything but the shipping.

Rick. I don't know if this will help you out but it's more info for the fire.
I have a new, in the package, tank badge, part number 87121-300-020. My parts book says it's the right side tank badge for tanks up to frame number 1044649. The letters are outlined in silver, have smooth, black paint on the inside and "dots" in black around the letters.  I believe this is a correct K0 badge.
The badges on my '71 are white lettered.
