What is this part ?

And if it's that corroded, is it worth cleaning, or would you just replace ?
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

That is your starter relay.  If it works I would just clean it up and put it back in .

I've even split them open and dressed the points then slapped them back together and they still work fine, if it goes click click and your battery is good then the points inside it are dirty.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Brass wire brush it and repaint that silver.  Put a dab of oil on the nuts and wires.  If it quits on the road, putting a piece of metal across those top two nuts will get it going.  Works on everything from tractors to your wife's SUV and you will be very appreciated. (it is not possible to kickstart most SUV's) (CMA Mechanical Ministry, lowest rung, here to help)
