4 crazy hot girls or 4 girls are easier to deal with and less trouble than one?  Who would have thunk!  ;)  The things you can learn on this forum grow daily.

nooo, a girl that rates a 4 on the 1-10 hot scale is gonna be about a 10 on the cool scale.  A girl that's a 10 on the hot scale is also gonna be a 10 on the crazy scale, guaranteed.

Really just sayin those 350 twins have always sucked.  Points driven off the cam? #$%* that.   Honda got it right with the 4's

Its a 2win and going to vibe a bit..........that they do..that they do..

I currently have a 71 cb350 twin and can confirm that. The handlebar risers coming off the top tri tree clamp have rubber bushings, the top motor mount has rubber bushings, the CL handlebars I have on it have weights welded into the ends of the bars, Honda wouldn't have done all that if the twin cyl engine was a vibration free engine. It's a great running bike but the bottom of your feet will get a bit tingly when you wind it up and you feel that vibration coming through the foot pegs.

This. Tuning up a CB360 to flip right now. Any bike that needs a valve adjustment, points, timing and condensers every 1,000-1,500 miles ain't for me!

I DID get an apology, though!  :D

Here's what I found in my inbox this morning:
Scott ...

It was totally inappropriate for me to vent about the "apparent" problem the way I did. Please accept my apology for doing so ...

You are correct in that your responsibilities ended when you sold the bike to John and you were most gracious to answer my many emails.

During the 70's and 80's I did all the maintenance on my Honda 305 Scrambler and actually built an older (CL72) Scrambler from an abandoned pile of parts and boxes. After 27 years (at 72) I really didn't want to get back into working on my bikes; however, tomorrow I'll pull out my feeler gauges and do the valve adjustment myself. That will end my speculation as to whether or not there is a problem.

Either way ... its my bike and my problem ... I accept that.

Again sorry for the previous email to John.

don

 To which I replied:

I strongly suggest you get a second opinion. The valves aren't adjusted on the lobe of the cam (the pointy end of the egg, so to speak), but on the base of the cam, when the valves are closed. If that cam was so worn that they couldn't even adjust it, the bike would barely run, if at all. It would have to be worn out completely, which I would find unusual on a bike with around 4,000 original miles, and one on which I rode extensively before selling.

And there endeth the lesson. You went above and beyond what is required. Your integrity is intact.

Not that anyone here doubted that.

Finally, you've been discovered! I have always suspected you of a being a shady, flipper, half-jack mechanic. Every time I came down I saw the pile of "junk" in your scrap heap with pictures and labels touting "sandcast" just to take advantage of some unsuspecting hipster vintage collector wannabe. D-bags like you need to be drawn and quartered directly after a good old fashioned Keel Hauling!

(Sorry, been in Miami all week with the yacht crowd so K-H has been a topic).

I hope Bob or Gordon revokes your Moderator privileges to restore the good name of this forum!  >:(

I guess the point I'm making is SO many folks have 'Baggage' from other previous repair mechanics/shops/individuals that they just love to place square on the shoulders of a new mechanic as if it's all His fault. Those kind of folks have 'issues'  and i'd rather not work for them;they seem very motivated to go out and find a scapegoat to blame for all their grief.
Not easy to spot these folks but I try to be patient w/ everybody as much as I can.
Exactly the reason i stopped working on others' motorcycles.

Wow, what a turd. I second Fly's first reply. A turd deserves the bird.

How could he assume it's a specific owner out of a series of owners?

If the guy is close by I would honestly explain that the cam lobe isn't going to wear down to a nub without some other serious wear and/or damage. Maybe the shop is taking him for a trip.

But this guy sounds like a bother so it's probably best to not get involved. Just have a beer and carry on.

some folks are never happy in business dealings.  they feel as though they are always getting screwed.  so they sort of compensate for it by selecting a scapegoat and/or nit picking.  it's surprising the guy you sold the bike to shared your contact info.  that right there would have pissed me off the most.

So, the middle man weighed in, too.

Sorry for the slow response internet is minamal here.  Don first thing get a second opinion.   Scott sorry for getting you in the middle, I did not see this happening.  Don I was reluctant to sell you the bike so far away but you insisted.   I am sorry for any issues, Scott and I both found this bike to be pretty solid.   Hope all turns out well.

So John just wanted Don to have your information to ask questions and not to chew you out, it seems. I get that. Still very weird. You have zero ties to that bike. If Don wants help from you, charge him. If he wants to continue to slander you, we can make him stop.

The sun doesn't set on the SOHC4 empire. ;)

Or have Don join the forum, he can get free help here if he wants.

My GF made a point this moring. Maybe he's confusing memories with reality. If he's reliving the days of when he was 27, maybe his memory of that bike and the reality of a 45 year old motorcycle just don't jibe.
