Metal Devil, at $40 for the blade it is worth EVERY penny.

As some of you know I am in the bike salavage biz and we needed something that would cut FAST. Die grinders (TOOSLOW), Recip saw (TOOSLOW). We tried a recip saw and the blade to frame ratio was 1 to 1.

This cuts through steel frame tube like butter. This bugger will cut faster than a plasma cutter. By the time you have the machine starting to cut the guy with the saw it done. Cuts faster than my guys can keep up with

With two guys working, we can tear down a junker NOW and slice it up in less than 30 minutes grand total! and recover all of the parts! Plus it leaves all of the ends of the tubes smooth, smoother than a grinder can get it.

I tried it this morning and buried it right in a neck gusset and within 10 seconds it was DONE! I have tried several times with the $5 abrasive blades (worthless). They would last about 3 frames as you watch it get as small as a drink coaster. Plus those guys can explode when the tension comes off the frame and the tube goes to pinch it.

This blade is merciless!!!

This will be awsome in a chop saw when we start building our own frames, works just like good tools should. Fast enough to not throw off the creative juices.

Where do you get these AWESOME blades

I have been using a chop saw with a 10" abrasive wheel - mostly watching it dissapear.

I got mine as an early Christmas gift from my uncle. I know they can be bought online. Just do a google search. I know they are expensive, but they cut so fast, it is just stupid. PLUS------- NO SPARKS! You will not believe the performance until you use one.

It is just silly how fast they cut.

G'Day Tom, what speed is it rated at? Most chop saws that take abrasive blades run way too fast for a steel blade, and regardless of what machine you've got a steel blade mounted in, if you're not using a cutting liquid, that blade will be toast in minutes.

Also, you'd want a very steady hand mate, if you hit a frame with a steel blade like you do with an abrasive cut off wheel on an angle grinder, you'll end up with a face full of shrapnel. Most steel cutting blades are happiest at very slow speeds, usually under 100 RPM. Cheers, Terry.

Nope, this blade is meant to be used with a circular saw. This bugger cuts at full speed. Like cutting with any other blade, NEVER allow it to twist when cutting with it. You don't have to be steady like a laser, but dont let it twist. Just use common sense and good safety glasses. I use a full face shield.

When it is new it will eject more like fine chips, as it starts to wear you get more sparks. I think it would last longer running at 1/2 speed in a chop saw with just a little lube. Just some ideas.

I have used very similar blades on aluminium I always wandered if you could use it on steel. I figured the carbide teeth would end up as unwanted projectiles.

I have a 14" chop I wonder if you can get one to fit it? It would be nice to not have to worry about burning the garage down

They have two different ones. Ones for steel should not be used on aluminum and vice versa. The aluminum will load up the blade.

Don't put one of the carbide blades in your 14" chop saw. The carbide is rated for a 1800rpm max? and the 14" cutoffs are like a 4000rpm? Just guessing at the #'s but it was like 1/2 the speed. I have a Makita cutoff with the carbide blade and it was the best money I ever spent on a chop saw!! No more black dust all over the shop and your nose, just a nice clean, straight cut. and no heat!! And super fast! I built 30 of the little choppers in my pic with one blade!!! And it still cuts ok. I haven't cut a lot of alumium but it works. I even cut a couple 2x4's once but the next time I used it the wood dust caught on fire!!

Lowe's has a carbide toothed steel blade for a Circular saw for $60.00. My chop saw and circular saw are both dewalt and turn in the same RPM range ( about 5000). The saw you mentioned above, does it have a carbide toothed steel blade on it and how large is the blade

Lowes blade is probably for wood not steel? My makita is a 12" and runs at 1800rpm and it has warnings all over the blade not to turn it any faster.

I checked again and the saw is rated at 1300 rpm and the blade says not to run it over 2000 rpm. The chips are hot enouph at 1300, I wouln't want it to cut any faster. I,ve have a like new dewalt in the corner for the last 4 years, I use it if I have to cut some oil field pipe outside or something. I have the good one mounted in a cutting bench. I think the carbide saws would pay for themselves in the blade savings alone! Let alone the mess, Heat, time, etc. Almost a bur free cut! Don't have that itchy fiber glass crap all over your arms, face and nose.

The blade @ Lowe's is to cut steel it has a pic on the package of a circular saw cutting a piece of 2" x 2" piece of heavy wall tubing, but I did not think to look @ the max speed on the Blade. It said it was tungsten carbide teeth and I think it had 40 teeth. I will probably just stick with the band saw and chop saw for now

I cut with wreckless abandon on an old crapy skill saw. Not sure on the speeds. I can tell you there is just no better way to cut up a frame.

Just got a plasma cutter in the shop....

Plasma = 15-20 minutes to cut up frame.
Blade = 20-50 seconds.
abrasive wheel = 30 minutes plus.

Got my hands on a 7 1/4" one of these bad boys for my ol' skilsaw.... HOLY YOU-KNOW-WHAT!!!

This is THE gnarliest thing Ive ever used to cut metal, hands down. I have a plasma cutter, sawzall, tons of p-motors with all kindsa cut off wheels, metal cutting abrasive blades on a grinder, a chop saw with abrasive blade... they all suck now.

I really doubted the hype on this thing, till I got it. Cutting 2x4x1/8" box steel for my ladies truck frame today was insanely fast and clean. Totally cool to the touch right after the cut too! Watch your ass tho... it ejects mini razorblades outta the front by the pound...

Well worth the $66 over at grainger.

I got my metal devil circular saw blade from FASTENAL. We use it to cut aluminum sheets down to size. And works pretty darn good.
