1981 Honda CB650z (RC03) engine change. What will fit?
« on: June 27, 2017, 09:25:07 AM »
Hi, my cb650z's engine is dead - camshaft has damaged head around it. New engine or parts for 81s year not possible to find in my country.  I need new one engine because repairing of original isn't possible and cost to expensive.  Please tell me: what engine will fit to my frame (RC03 model)??

Any sohc 650 will fit.   Biggest diff it the head/carb spacing.  What carbs you have?   should be cv's but have seen a 81 few Z's with the older style head/carbs.   and after almost 40 years dont know what has been done to the bikes.    One thing to be aware of also Germany got a lopo version if the 650.   Was limited to 50hp by the cam.
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

1981 and 1982 CB650 engines are pretty much identical.

1979 and 1980 CB650 engines will fit but the head is different -- different intake spacing and carburetors.
