Guys,
can anyone advise (1975 CB400 4) on the thread size and type for the rear wheel Hub Bearing/Seal retainer.

Why do you ask, just curious?????? Parts list just gives the part number...doesn't specify the thread specs.

Sounds like you're looking to re-tap the hub??? New retainers are cheap ($15???) and used hubs are available.

I can measure one and tell you if you really need to know... buy you can clean up the threads with a smaller 1/2 ground bolt of the same pitch. The thread is rather large diameter, a bottom tap that size wil be mucho dinero. I just priced an 8X1mm LH die... still in shock.

I imagine it will be very difficult and expensive to find a bolt or a tap that size. It's probably somewhere around 2" (50mm) in diameter!!!

I consider USD$50.00 plus shipping pretty steep for a 6mm die, reverse thread or not. I can't find one at any local tool shops (yet).
Just to make an unobtainable 2nd position shift linkage for a CB77, one end of that to thread and then the die would go into the toolbox and never be used again.
I've used a small bolt - same pitch - ground down to a half-circle to dress the threads and clean up the punched threads so a new retainer would thread in smoothly. There are thread files available but as can be seen, I'm cheap.

use a tread caunter it vill give exact info abaut  angel( 60dec) and threads( stigning) reise by 1 rotation..so you can machine a nev in a lathe. you only need to messure the auter diameter of the retainer treads.metric is symetric so vide is the same as height 60 degree angel..

you can use any bolt or thredet shaft as long it are metric and korreekt reise pr 1 rotation....the diameter is no problem..if it"s er a 1,5 in thread its the same it a 6 mm shaft or a 60 mm shaft..
