1981 CB650z new engine. What will fit?
« on: July 02, 2017, 05:50:16 AM »
Hello, guys! My cb650's engine is dead: camshaft had no oil because part of thread get into right oil can and camshaft was scratched. Also top and bottom aluminium parts has been damaget. In Ukraine no parts for so old engine. American parts is expensive and has no reason because its years.
My question: what new engine will fit to my cb650s frame? My mechanic advises me to find a new 90-2000s complete engine because its not so old. can you help me please?

Um...I think he wants a more modern engine to put in it.

I can't help with that, though.

I think it's going to be trial and error.

What engines are available at the salvage yards there?

First of all , to fit another engine, it must be very similar.
The honda 500/550/650. The cylinders are straight up.. So a newer motor with slanted forward cylinders is never going to fit.
 Keep that in mind..

This is not a direct drop in -- will require new mounts -- but a Kawasaki EX500 will fit.
