Odometer knob screw
« on: July 10, 2017, 04:39:48 PM »
Does anyone have a secret to getting an odometer knob setscrew to unscrew? I'm doing the teardown for new faces. So far three tries equals one screw broken at the slot and no success on the other two. Glad I have junk ones to practice on. I've tried multiple screwdrivers and cleaned out the slot but haven't resorted to heat or penetrating oil yet.

I got both of mine off using a good quality screwdriver and a quick hard turn. They seemed to be locktighted down.

Aren't they reverse threaded?

Well, that might make a difference. The newer ones unscrew from the gauge with the shaft, they might go backwards.
