casting date deciphering Q?
« on: July 12, 2017, 03:25:44 PM »
I have access to a couple unstamped 1970 engine cases. is there a guide to deciphering the casting codes in the hexagonal recesses on the top engine case? I see III 0 3 10 on one and II 9 0 12 in the 4 hex holes.

Don't know that, but compare them Carefully to existing cases.
I think on KO cases there is a difference in the gusset under where oil gauge mounts, compared say to A 73.

The only time I've seen any casting codes mentioned was in relation to different heads.

They both had the early flywheel and no centerbolt in the front of the heads that were on them. At least one was under a sandcast top end but I was curious about the build date. The sandcast cases have the numbers in the top of the casting, I don't know what they mean either.

Google photos. Easy to use and unlimited storage. You can also post direct links just like Photobucket, but it takes a couple more clicks.
