I have the opportunity to buy a clean 82 gl500 for $500. It has been garage kept the entirety of it's life and has been sitting for about 10 years with the tank and carbs drained. Anyone know anything about these bikes?

One I always have loved it but naked
Two, it's a great price

I saw one in yellow colour with less than 20,000 kms and guy wanted 2200$ (Canadian) didn't buy it though.

I've owned two just like that one, loved them but wish Honda had made them a 650, which they finally did but too late to save the model.  Water pump seals can be a problem, not much else goes wrong. Buy it as that is one good price...Larry

Cx and gl forum is a great community like here, yes, well worth the risk of anything.  Inspect with a mirror and light to ensure your timing chain tensioner is working and there is good life on the blades. David Silver Spares carries a good selection of aftermarket parts of good quality, but you can get good discounts on parts at South Sound Honda in Olympia, Washington when going original Honda parts.
 I believe Parts N More give CX members an extra 5 % off for some services of the CX forum did for them.  Details on that forum.

You can always drop a 650 motor in the bike if you find one inexpensively, they turn up every now and then.
