77 750F Charging?

How do I check if system is charging or not?

Very simple,  Connect a VOM to the battery, set at 20vdc. Start the bike and read the voltage.  If around 12.5 to 13.5 vdc it should be ok. There is more to this procedure but this will get you headed in the right direction.  Check it out and let us know.  Al

VDC =  volts  direct current.  That is what you want. I'm sorry if I typed VCD.  Anyhow,   what you want to read is about 12.5 to 13.5.  Anything less and you have a problem.  Now finding that problem is a different matter altogether.  Al

I am reading it as 12 VDC.   Shut the bike off and then read the battery voltage again...  Are you having some specific problem or what.  Al

It started out that my turn signals started acting slow (lights and sound) then had a real hard turn over electric start that did not start the bike. Kick started it to get home.

Then you have a depleted battery at this point. Properly recharge your battery with a quality charger. Remove from the charger, then test the battery again with the meter, probes directly on the battery terminals.

What voltage do you read exactly? "12 volts" as a reading/measurement is not specific enough.

Your battery must be good, verified healthy before you diagnose any charging issues elsewhere on your bike.

Another aspect here is how well is your rectifier filtering out AC to prevent the AC from damaging your battery.  Your analog meter above might not be the best for seeing this type of measurement. And the inexpensive Harbor Freight multimeters are not the best for it either.  I use a Fluke 17B multimeter which is overkill but something in the 25-30 dollar range might be OK.  Ask around and borrow one before buying a good meter.

   You almost can't work on these bikes without a modern digital multimeter.

Slow charged the battery all night.
Took the battery to local Auto Store.
Battery tested Good.

Had all this done just last year by a Certified Honda Motorcycle Mechanic...( see attachment)

Had a similar problem after that.
Dim headlight, slow turn signals and then a totally dead bike.
Removed the Fuse Panel and blasted it.
After that Head Light was Bright, Signals worked great and it fired right up.

Input would be appreciated.

"Tested good" means little to nothing. Use a meter and post the actual measured value. Otherwise it's any 1 of 1,000 things, most of which require actual data, not "did this in the past" references.

The Auto parts guy tested the battery in the back of the store.
All he told me was that it tested "Good".
No idea what the reading was.

Sorry, is that picture of the actual battery voltage? If so, your battery looks to be toast.

A experianced (Motorcycle) friend stopped over with a decent Voltage Meter. He frowned upon my Radio Shack MultiMeter.
Electrical System (charging) is working fine.
His guess is that somewhere a possible wire / short depleted the battery and may only occur perioadicaly.
His suggestion is to look for a decent wiring harness to replace the existing one.

Did your experienced friend do the very-first-thing to check with charging problems on these bikes ?... that is to undo the 8-way plug under the left hand side cover and examine the male pins for overheating/ burning and melting of the connector  and resultant  iffy/no connection of the alternator  ( yellow-yellow-yellow ) wires or the field coil wires ( white and green ) ?? When a meter connected across the battery wont read at least 13.5v @ 5,000 rpm then go straight to that connector ;)

No we did not do any further than checking if the bike was charging.
Need to move on with your advise.
