What are my Headlight Bucket options ?
« on: December 21, 2006, 08:31:19 AM »
Morning...

I was just thinking about my options for headlight buckets on the new/current project.
I am need to stay with a sidemounted 7'' bucket, but are their any options I can go with besides the stock/Honda headlight part ?
Any of you guys running something besides the stock piece ?
Maybe something alittle smaller- longer-etc ?
Just looking for another way to make my bike stand out from the pack..

Let me know...

Personally, I don't really care for the large headlight. It seems like the Honda 350 headlight
is slightly smaller. I'm not sure about the actual size. I'm just thinking they would be cheaper to
buy than something new. I like a smaller (not tiny) light because I feel that it gives the bike a
better look. I don't really want any one part of the bike to just stand out there, if you know
          what I mean?

Really not looking to make the headlight the "focus piece" of the bike, just more of in a hunt to find something different from every other CB on the road...

Besides Duster, I know you are saving that paint for one of your projects, as it is your color !

here's an idea:

You can get these from Spare Shack. They are in the UK, but wil ship to US, no problem. They also come in Chrome and Carbon Fiber (fake, probably). They are designed just to fit right in the hole left by your 7" headlight.

I have a set on my Ducati that I am planning on transplanting onto the CB if I ever get a new head light for the DUC (I do have a plan for that, too...)

How about a smaller size 5-3/4" headlight?

After looking at the bike last night , I am pretty sure I am gonna stay with a 7'' headlight, and maybe just do a different bucket. I kinda like the look of a big headlight on a small bike..

Does it have to be a side mount?  Can't you use a bottom mount bucket attached to the bottom triple-tree?  There are tons of bottom mount buckets in various sizes available.

I heard someone recently suggest a URAL bucket for a cafe racer look. The Ural's have the speedo mounted in the back of the bucket. Since I happen to own one, I guess it's my place to suggest a Chang Jiang bucket instead of a URAL. (Changs and Urals are both, of course, clones of the 1938 BMW R71) Chang parts tend to be a bit less pricey than equivalent URAL parts, but sometimes the Chang parts are poorer quality.

Here are couple links to pics of the Chang Bucket:

You can find these buckets either painted or plated.

Hi all - I realize I am a late comer to this post but I just thought I would add my info. .  .

I am using the bucket from a GL1000 - its all chromed steel, 7", and looks WAY better than the stock plastic one (I'm trying to do away with all the plastic I can, on the bike). .  .I believe they also came on some 500T and CB750s, etc. They are pretty cheap on 'the eBay', too   ;D

I like this.....is there enough room inside for all the wiring connections?

doug_id: Yes, easily. . .much easier than the smaller 'custom' headlight that I had on my bike before (from PO install) that couldn't store hardly any of the wires.

Here is another view, as I realize the previous picture doesn't show the wiring hole..  .

Hi Pawsoff,
Geeto67 has a bucket from Benji's Cafe Racers that incorporates the original Honda gauge.

He never updated us with a picture of it all finished. It'd be great to see how it turned out.

chopstar500,

what kind of wire loom is that, going down from the handle bar clamp, past the headlight?  The loom or housing looks good.

That's a nylon mesh loom that we have here @ work - really nice stuff. In addition to coming in different sizes, it also expands based on the size/amount of wiring. I'll double check the manufacturer - I think you can get it from McMaster Carr - I used it on all of my wiring (with heat shrink) and it looks very clean. What you see in the pic is the controls wiring leading down to the main harness.

cycle 2 recycle has some headlight options. One is a 7" kawi chrome, another is a 6 1/2" honda magna. They have others also.

Damn, I dig that Chiang Jang CJ750 bucket! Do you know what size the headlight it takes is? Is it a standard size? Anyone know the diameter of the speedo hole?
