Spark plug question...
« on: July 18, 2017, 11:24:42 AM »
I am getting Dash ready for the Delores CO Family Reunion and decided to change the spark plugs.  #1 and #4 looked perfect as far as coloring.  #3 was lean  and #2 was leaner yet.
Is there any simple remedy to this ?  I am not looking for perfection but if there is a simple remedy to getting #3 and #2 to be less lean I would love to know about it.  I did put in new plugs so the old ones are gone (I neglected to take pictures).
Put in the DES 7 plugs

Assumed your carbs are clean and float levels are more or less the same, you could try with turning the airscrews of carbs 2 and 3 1/8 - 1/4 turn in. That's what I would do.

The problem is that without doing a multi-RPM plug chop it's hard to pinpoint what part of the throttle range is producing the lean condition and so which part of the carb needs adjusting, the jets, the needle, or the air screw.

Correct., but....

Assuming all jets and fuel levels are the same, AND a proper vacuum sync has been done, decreasing the air in the mix on 2&3 with the IMS will richen up enough throughout the whole throttle range.

+1 to Deltas suggestion.

Thank you gentleman. I knew you would have an answer.  I did do a proper carb sync and all was well on that end (that was about 800 miles ago).

Did you do a valve adjust before the carb sync?
Do you know if all the cylinders have the same compression?

Yes I did the valves and then the carb sync.  I have not checked the cylinders compression however.  So much to do and so little time
