CB550 Cam Chain Tensioner
« on: July 20, 2017, 11:17:39 AM »
Ok, I'm midway through a full tear down of my engine. In pulling out the cam chain tensioner, I noticed the slack adjuster screw is slightly broken - half the threads are gone on one side of the slot. Looking fur replacement parts has me unhappy. NOS Cam chain tensioner is $250 pretty much everywhere.

Other than these threads the part is in serviceable shape. Any tips on fixing this?

Thanks!

Aaron

Not sure if that part can be easily removed and replaced with a better one from an old tensioner with the rubber all gone. If it were me, I'd probably try cutting the threaded portion off and welding a new threaded portion back on.

Maybe a picture? I assume you're talking about half of the part with the flat head slot is broken off from someone being too aggressive with it.
