2 Stroke help
« on: July 23, 2017, 06:17:14 PM »
Found a crack in my cylinder wall by the exhaust port, looks like spider webs. Is getting the cylinder replated the best option? Think I could get away with just a piston and rings for the next few months so I can replate this winter?

single, twin or triple?   Replating?  not too many 2 strokes had plated cylinders( IIRC Bridgestone was one).  You could get by but since it is apart, do it right.  Some bikes had replaceable cylinder liners...Larry

Looks like a sleeve. If it is plated the barrel looks to be pretty damaged. 2 Strokes are harder to sleeve because you need to match up all the ports, might be cheaper to find another cylinder unless they are made out of unobtainium.

just wants a small weld and a re plate , i have repaired much worse than that one .
would not use it as is though you will just ruin the new piston and ring , it wont be hard crome it will be nicasil . i dont know where you are in the world but here in england
it would cost about 140 quid to repair and plate it .
