Honda Loyality since 1965
« on: July 25, 2017, 03:50:38 PM »
Hi to all,
Been riding Honda street bikes since I got my driver license in 1965, I own at this
time 4 in the stable.
I was a Honda dealer master mechanic ( the beginning of changing the title to technician)
in the 70's and 80's. A fellow co-worker and I campaigned my 550f for 2 years in 2,4 and 6
hour endurance racing, what cheap fun club racing all you needed was to be an AMA member
at that time.
Today after retiring from being an automotive tech I have been restoring Honda motorcycle
engines. Do all the work here in my garage.
At this time I'm reviving a 74 CB750. The first on the list is building the power plant. I have
2 engines in which to pull the best parts from. The valves have been in a tumbler for the last 4
days to remove the carbon and also threw in the rods to get a slight polishing.
So far the new parts on the shelf consist of:
   JE Pistons-- 65.00mm 10.25:1
   Web cam--  Grind 63a
   H/D valve springs-- Dynoman
   Adjustable cam sprocket-- Dynoman
I've lucked out also with a Dyna ignition for free

The engine is in pieces and I will continue in the Project thread area
Glad to be here hope you all are willing to share

   Thanks--Preston

Welcome from Texas.  My current project is a K4 but I also have a 550F, what a fun bike to ride!

Looks like you're not too far from Wilbur near Orlando.

Welcome Preston!

1965: You had a LICENSE?!  :o
I didn't know I needed one then, rode that poor CT90 into town, the countryside, the woods, the ground...
;)
I got my license in 1968, in 1969 I traded my Ford Galaxie for the 1968 SuperHawk (rare bird!), and never looked back.

Post pics of your build?
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Welcome to the forums.  We are a visual bunch...in case you were not aware, PhotoBucket is no longer allowing photo hosting pics from their site to other sites, third party hosting.
Flickr or other hosting sites are the way to go.

Look forward to your thread.

Welcome,  as HM said "you had a license".   Back then at least in PA one got on a bike a rode, nothing special required.  I did have a motorcycle inspection license though...Larry

Thanks for the welcome here on the SOHC/4 site.
I have many years experience working on engines for Honda products
( cars, bikes and power products)also as a master tech for 15 years
with Volvo cars.
Since retiring in '09 I've used my garage to work on my motorcycles
and to help out my riding buddies. Over the years I have bought tools
like they would never be available again. So I'm set up to start and
finish without having to sublet any machining ect.
Pic of my last project, took 6 years to complete to this point. Sorry for the extra
cylinders.

  Thanks again for the welcome,
  Preston

  P.S. started a thread in Project " CB750E build"

Wow!  CBXs get respect and some drooling around here...

I owned 240s from '86-'12, wish I still had one...  tough finding decent ones now without spending a lot of money and some nice earlier ones are selling for over what they were new.  A friend in Phoenix has a very nice '91 and a 75 164E he uprated with euro cams and some other bits.
