Battery Question for 75 Honda CB550
« on: July 24, 2017, 02:23:40 PM »
I'm looking to replace my battery and go with a smaller one so I can fit it under the seat. Would this battery work 12V 8AH AGM? I'll switch out the turn signals and brake light to LED but will be using the original headlight (bulb). Not worried if it has enough cold cranking power, can use kick starter. My concern is will this supply enough power and not affect the performance of the bike. Will the coils be affected, I also have switched out to electronic ignition. Not sure if that matters. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Just in case you miss my reply in the SOHC4 board, go with a lithium battery from someone like Shorai or Antigravity rather than AGM. MUCH lighter and you don't give up as much reserve capacity for the small size Li type than you do with AGM.

8 cell shorai is preferred over antigravity and others...shorai has fewer problems.  8 cell if you wish to use starter at all, if you want kick only, then go 4 cell.

Oh yeah, don't go Rick's for regulator, better to use Oregon Electrics, Rick's often does not play nice with Lithium batteries.

I've never heard that David, I've used two Rick's R/R's with Shorai batteries. Voltage stays stable, no issues.
