« on: July 26, 2017, 03:26:46 PM »
Iam noticing that OZ Terry,s  BUILD THREAD  is about 1/2 social commentary.

I imagine that if one agrees with the commentary, they'd be ok with it. I haven't read it, but it's his thread.

The build threads are already highly segregated from the main forums, so it's pretty difficult for them to get officially "off-topic".  As long as the originator is fine with the discussion, and as long as the discussion doesn't explicitly go against forum rules (and isn't reported as such) then we have no reason to intervene.

LOL  ;D

Terry seems to be enjoying the underlying running secondary topic imbedded in his "Bitsa" build thread and appears to be happily participating. It seems almost like a means to keep the thread alive on those days when work in the garage has been slow (or non existent). I get the feel from Terry's thread that we are all just sitting around his garage getting drunk and razzing each other.  8)

As Gene and Gordon stated, the attitude of the originator of the thread would have the final say. I've seen threads here (very few) and on other forums (more prevalent) where the originator of the thread would get all "bowed up" if there were any comments made that were not specific to the topic at hand. Furthermore, if we could not offer any useful information about the topic at hand then we were not to post at all. No opinions allowed, just the facts ma'am, just the facts. Those types of anal retentive forum members get less attention from me, even if I have the answer they are looking for. More than once I have wanted to say "lighten up Francis!"

So.... IMHO, damn the torpedoes, bring on the social commentary (or any other comments for that matter)  8)

As long as those comments are not meant to inflame or antagonize anyone.  :(  It is difficult to infer sarcastic wit, and even if you could, not everyone appreciates a dry sense of humor as well as Terry!  ;D

Terry is being humorous????? I thought that he was dead serious! That totally destroys my faith in him, now I doubt that he probably isn't even an Aussie, just types with an accent.
