easy wiring with M Unit?
« on: July 27, 2017, 04:38:42 PM »
Just started building my new bike and already thinking about the wiring mess. Does the M Unit simplify wiring on our bikes?  If so, any builds to show the best process?

Thanks!

The m-unit can streamline a few things.  Lights and switches.
But not the charging system.

At the end of the day, you're still wiring up a bike.  A tedious process if there ever was.

thanks for the replies!  So you still use the original harness in conjunction with the M unit?

Yikes, run all new wiring? That might be too much work :)  I can rebuild an engine but wiring is a PITA!  Do they sell a wiring kit that details the wiring with the M unit?

A plug and play "custom" wiring solution? Yikes indeed!   :o

If anybody could provide something like that it would be cal...  ;)  ;D  8)

Hey Cal, I would love to have that!  So your diagram is taking the M - Unit and wiring it all from scratch, not using the OEM harness correct?

Thanks for everyone's help!

It's not a "kit". It's a wiring diagram. Shows how/where wires connect from stock components to m-unit. You can buy a bundled wire kit of lengths and colors from sources, but nobody delivers a ready to go "kit".

LOL! Cal is well versed in the M-units but he does not produce a "kit". Sorry for the confusion, I was merely referring to cal's experience with these and that if anyone could even come close to producing a custom "kit" he might be able to do so. The only problem with a "custom kit" is the word custom.

i.e. what switches? What model? What year? What is being eliminated? What is being added?

Way too many variables for a "one size fits all" kit, even one specific to a SOHC/4.  ;)

It's a lot easier to use the stock harness than to wire a bike from scratch, and a whole lot cheaper than using an M Unit. ::)
