WHICH CB750 ?
« on: July 29, 2017, 09:49:16 AM »
Hi,
I'm progressing along in the restoration of my Rickman CB750 but already I'm thinking of my next project.
I'm quite into the SOHC CB750's which I supposes is why I'm on this forum.
I would like to full nut and bolt restore a standard 750 and would like the gold colour.
A question or two:
What years exactly did Honda make the Gold coloured bikes ? I figure early 70's
And is this Aztec Gold ?
The engines would be similar to the late seventies bikes except the later ones had 8 oil seals between the cylinders and head, any other differences ?

I'm thinking the best way to get the correct unseized bike here in the UK is an import from the USA of which I can do from breakers that bring them in. I'ts just getting the correct year.
Cheers
Keith

Gold paint was made in 1970,1971 and 1972.

No, it's Candy Gold.  Here is the model guide for you to study.

Look for a K0 model, they are getting very collectible. I have a K1 I'll be restoring soon.

Thanks for that info.
Assuming K0 is 1970 ?

Around 1972 I had a Yamaha FS1E in a very similar colour to candy gold, bought it new for £120 p/ex it £80 ish about year or so later for Suzuki Hustler 250cc.
Fissy fetching 4-5K now.

Thanks again Keith

The KO number I believe is 44,*** or so. Not over 50, k.
One set if numbers, after Sandcast ended, next number went on the first diecast.
Gold paint came out at 26,***. So oess than 20,000KO could have come gold.
Further more, I don't know how fast spare  tanks and body parts were available to be sold through the dealer.
Of course another option was traded body parts, but with painted airbox and headline ears, that was less likely, than in later years, where it was a 15 minute swap.

Europe got only K0, K1, K2 sold to -75, K6 from 76 registered as 77, at least in Sweden. All with the early blinkers and rear lamp. I had to order a K1 rear chromed fender to fit my K6 since later US bikes got the bigger rear lamp with additional bracket making a hole in fender. EU rear fender hard to find. It has more holes for the mud flap. K1 has only 1.
Yamiya750 has new made rear plastic fender.

K0 cost much more. Maybe possible to use K0 body set on a K2...
