Thanks again for the nomination, here is a quick version of the project...

Back in late April, took the day off work, was to be a great day to ride the Texas Hill Country.  Rolled the K4 out of the garage, did the usual checks.

So I gear up and take off, heading west around 10:30am with Llano TX as my lunch destination, about 70 miles of scenic twisty roads in the Hill Country.
I over take a car my speed approaching 90, all of a sudden the oil light comes on and the motor is not sounding well at all.
I pull over and could not believe what I see, a fricken 3" hole in the case!

Teardown started that day.

Obviously that case is history.

Bought parts from Bill B.  Love when these Hi-Po parts come in the original box...836cc forged pistons with an already bored cylinder set. Thx Bill.

Prepping the 836 jugs for paint....

Cam looks good.....

It's a Kenny Hardon D grind....

by

I traveled down to New Braunfels [about an hour] and picked a lower end from forum member Trey.  Thanks Trey.
He said it is a low mileage motor, about 20K miles or so.

The motor was fairly clean but cleaned  it up more to get it prepped for paint...

Spraying the 836 jugs that Bill B sent me....

  steve meriggi

Reused the head, it will get a couple coats of VHT Aluminum as well.

Got the motor reassembled....

With a little help, we were able to install the motor in less than 30 minutes.

Just for the heck of it, I pulled out my Clymer and read the section on engine installation, I just loved the technical details they give you:

1. Place engine in frame from the right side.
2. Install the mounting bolts.

It's that easy!  Ha!!

I next  installed  the oil tank and new SS lines from member Rafi. These look absolutely beautiful! Thanks again.

Got a few other things buttoned up.
Clutch cable installed and preliminary adjustment, right side footpeg and rear brake pedal w/switch...

Pulled the rear wheel to clean and check sprockets, brake shoes, bearings and the BT45, all look good. Also cleaned the chainguard and swingarmarm while the wheel was off and out of the way.
The Bridgestone does show some minor wear, but I think it's good for another 1000 miles.

Wheel back on....

Chain cleaned and back on...

New oil filter and polished cover back on....

Left side covers button up...

But holding off putting the sprocket cover back on.  Upon inspection of the wiring harness, it was slightly burned, so I replaced it.

Another wire looks to have been pinched. Damn PO!

Next up is everyone's favorite task....installing carbs!

I have my "special tools"...........

Really not bad, had the carbs on in 15 min.   Then cleaned up and installed the airbox...

Found these old pipes in the Batcave and slapped em on!

Also found this body kit, bought it a couple years back from Chewy.
Put NOS badges and a petcock on it....

And about three months later, she is done!  I've put about 200 relatively easy miles [not over 6K RPM yet] and she is running good!

Here she is at the local park....

How many miles do you plan to "break-in"?   Nice Yammie, is it an RZ?  [I have an RD350]

Thanks Steve!  I'm doing 100 miles keeping it under 6k rpm.  Change the oil and then take it easy for another probably 200-400 miles and slowly keep going alittle harder.   Just going to keep the bike under a load and make sure those rings seat well.

Yep it's a 85 rz.  Got it from the original owner with all receipts.  Love that bike.  I really like the rd's too

Low voter turnout so far.  Only 73 votes cast as of the last day of voting. Either indecision, lack of interest or sloth, I suppose.
