Shipping from the US to Mexico City?
« on: July 24, 2017, 09:28:59 PM »
Hi -- not sure if this is the right place, but here we go...
I've moved to Mexico City and will be making a couple trips back to Phoenix to get stuff, clean up my house for rental, etc. I am selling off a lot of my stuff, getting rid of more, and trying to figure out what to do with the remainder. I've got a locked storage space for a ton of old parts, so that's good, but I am trying to bring one or two runners (CB160, CB750) and a project (CB350F) across the border. Anyone done this? I've been told there might be some heavy taxes and that it would be wiser to ride them across and meet a moving truck on the other side, but I don't have the connections. I also have a 10,000+ record collection and DJ equipment and some other stuff that I could presumable bring if I was to find a way to ship via a larger truck. I've been warned against doing it myself, so I'm likely not going to try. Shipping container on a train? Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

Doesn't look like many guys have done this move. I would be pretty leery about moving those items across the boarder myself too. Certainly don't want the stuff to be confiscated. Next thing you know they are gone and no one knows what you are talking about. Curious...what does Mexico City have that Phoenix does not?

A new job for me and it's a good 'un.

Yes -- border is part of the hassle, although I've been told with runners the trick is to ride them across the border and say you're just going for a visit, then throw them in the van a couple clicks from the border. But I have a couple projects I want to bring too.

But I also have other #$%* I want to bring as I am viewing this move as permanent. Regular stuff, record collection, turntables, TV (maybe...), etc.

Have gotten some lines but nothing concrete yet so still looking for suggestions.

You could strap a couple on a trailer, say you're going down to Cabo for a ride, didn't want to heat the bikes up too much.

What you need, I would think, is bribe money.
