BIG purchase for my cb350f Update: Pipes Installed!
« on: August 03, 2017, 06:48:35 AM »
Well... I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a four into four reproduction of the original exhaust for my 350f restoration this morning.

Since my bike's original exhaust has been long gone for some time, I went ahead and purchased the whole nine yards including new brackets, hardware, exhaust gaskets, and new exhaust collars for the header pipes.

I purchased everything from CMSNL and after the USD conversion, it was a painful cost to look at... but I think it'll be worth it. This would have cost me a few hundred dollars more purchasing from David Silver Spares. To the best of my knowledge, the exhaust systems are exactly the same from both suppliers.

The goal is to have this bike ready for the All Clubs Day Vintage Motorcycle meet in Stockbridge, MI on September 17th. Has anyone else purchased reproduction original exhausts for their cb350f? everyone I talked to speaks very highly of this exhaust.

Its nice they are even out there considering the bike did not have a very long run build wise. They will really bring it up to its nice original glory.

You know, I was thinking about that for a while myself... it's really cool someone even makes the original pipes for the 350f. They cant be selling A LOT of these if I could imagine, but I guess its a good thing to get a set while they're still for sale!

doubled the value of the bike no doubt. Those pipes are spensive.

I'd recommend giving them a good treatment prior to install. On my 750 I bought a qt of hi heat paint and poured it into the pipes and rotated them around to get full coverage, then hung them up to drain. Did this one at a time. Keeps pipes from bluing and from rusting from the inside out.

that's something I forgot to ask in my original post! I have no idea if these reproduction pipes will last any longer untreated than the originals did when they were new! Did you use a Rustoleum paint? or some sort of engine enamel? I'd hate for these to rust out after a few years considering how expensive the pipes are  :o

Thanks

Thanks,

I sent my parts to member; evopgt. He does great work for the money. The goal was to get as close to the original Candy Bacchus Olive as possible using PPG products.

I think he nailed it, looks great, love that color.   I'd like him to do my 550 parts when the time comes...

Thanks, guys. Chris provides a great service. I'll definitely be sending him more work if I restore another bike in the future.

Going to be a great looking bike.   There is NOTHING like a new set of chrome pipes on these old beauties.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I have the David Silver repro set on my 72 350F. Have had them since 2012 and they're holding up just great. The main thing is to make sure you ride the bike long enough to cook out any condensation on each ride. Don't take short trips, ride it at least 1/2 hour each time you ride, and don't be afraid to rev it! These little guys love to rev, that's where they make their power.

Awesome! this is good info... glad they are holding up well. I wonder what manufacturing/quality differences there are between the original and reproduction four into four exhausts.

Right there with you when it comes to riding these for an extended period of time. I don't like to fire them up and quickly shut them off without good exercise. My pipes are scheduled to arrive today, so I will post pictures this evening.

Super impressed with these pipes from CMSNL. Chrome quality is extremely nice! no imperfections or waves. Almost afraid to put these on my bike.
