Cant figure points and bike dieing out
« on: August 07, 2017, 09:34:03 AM »
So i went to youtube to see how to adjust points plate and things. My bike 76 550 was always running  well until now. Its got full tank gas and battery  charged. It stopped wanting to fire last  week. It wants to fire but just not getting that major spark to fire up. The battery just dies out after i try so much. On youtube  i watched videos. They are using  this light check point tester. I bought  one and a feeler gauge. Now when i am hooked up with the bike on  and tester grounded why do i not see the light pop  on when im turnin the crank????  I have the gauges at about 16 to 17. Its now firing  up right  away but when i start messing with choke it will  die out. When i start just takin off its runnin ok..but when i give  gas or come to stop it wants to  die out or its not getting gas it wants. Im so confused what i should do now? Should i just replace this points plate with  new one? Where is this actually  hoooking into? I see the wire but cant tell exactly  wheres its connection  is into  for if i replaced this plate.  Anyone  possibly  able to help me on any of this stuff? Im so lost now  :/

Follow the points gap setting procedure listed in the HONDA manual, then report back on how it runs.

This^^^^ also, realize that points adjustment is an ongoing task. Unlike the electronic ignition they are not "set and forget". They need maintenance. It's not difficult, but they need attention from time to time.

messeduptriple I have noticed on a lot of your post that you don't know what to call a part. So I thought this would help. Just look at the part that you are not sure of and go to this site find your part and it will say what the part name is. Again just trying to help.

Thanks !! Yea I  need to try and be more ambitious  to search the names  of parts. I dont like saying that part thingy...and you're  right  I  do ...do that. I will start doing the research  and figuring  the proper names for parts. Thanks for comment.
