Question about assembling 1977 cb550 PD46A carbs
« on: August 08, 2017, 01:55:31 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I'm fairly new on this form, i have a 1977 CB550 3k that I'm rebuilding the carbs, i have a 4 into 1 exhaust and pod filters on the way so decide to rebuild the carbs since I'm going to be changing the main jets and pilot jets (slow jets). right now i have the metal carb pieces in homemade 50/50 Pinsoil/water mix ready to be cleaned tonight.

My question is if anyone if familiar with the PD46A carbs; I have the carbs all disassembled except i can not get the float needle seat out, does anyone know if it comes out or is it fixed in place? (little brass piece in the carb body where the float compression needle sit in)

Also I've seen people just clean it that piece with toothpaste on the float needle and hand lapping it on the little brass piece (just turning it while its in the seat) any advice to clean it?

also I'm having a hard time getting the main needle jet guide/seat out, do people usually change this with rebuild kits? or just leave it alone? if i can leave it alone that would be ideal.

anyone have any advice, that would be much appreciated, thanks and happy to be on this forum  :)
