Finally got new wheel bearings in front and back wheels so am in the process of getting those put back on now.

I am thinking the extra long brake line I have will reach the master cylinder ok. I decided to bypass the middle piece that signals the brake light. I always slow with both front and rear brakes so the rear sending unit should be fine by itself. I will also be painting the metal pipe black once I get the brake line bled. The light surface rust on the chrome rims cleaned up pretty nicely using fine steel wool. I will also wax them to hopefully slow down the rust from returning.

For sure.....gona have to do some cutting and grinding. Try to taper it some so the change is not to abrubt.

I´m running CB900 Boldor shocks on my caferacer.
They are 30 mm longer than stock 500/750 items.
Bolts directly on.
The raise of the rear ride height quickens the steering a little and gives a more aggressive nose down stance.
Works out perfect on the 750 and might take care of your clearence issues.
The shocks can be found on the CB750-900-1100 Boldor as well as the CBX1000.
Plenty around on Ebay

What's up with the front brake line? Doesn't look like it's oriented correctly on the caliper - but the whole thing does look awesome - looking forward to seeing the continued progress.

Yea, I think the metal tube usually goes more straight back wher it connects with the regular type brake line that then connects to the sending unit. Since I am planning on bypassing the sending unit I have the pip portion more vertical.

Why not just get a line made up and get rid of the metal tube all together ?
Just a straight shot from the master to the caliper (like on my 750).
Looks a hell of allot nicer/cleaner than that metal pipe deal (my opinion)..

Hey Doug, the bike is looking great. Quick question. I just ordered a Benji's seat similar to yours, but all vinyl. How easy is the mounting? He say's it's a simple bolt-on for a 550, but I'm assuming that it doesn't use the stock lock pin. How exactly does it mount?

Yea.....that is probably the best way to go.......didn't know if I could find brake line with the screw in fitting that goes into the caliper. The pipe won't stand out so much once I paint it black....right now it is an eyesore for sure. Something I may try to swap out down the line.

Hey, Mine fit perfectly.....it bolted on to the rear thru the two holes in the humped up part of the frame.....

Then had a bolt on piece in the front behind the gas tank rubber piece for the tounge of the seat to slide into.

yes, everything needed to attach to frame. Post some pics when you get in on the bike.

Postman just dropped these off.

From JC Whitney......Have to say they feel and look higher quality than I expected. Have to see how they hold up. I will probably mount them on the handle bar on either side of the idiot light cluster.

Those gauges look tight.
Just make sure you go above and beyond when mounting them (isolation wise).
I have heard from more than a few people that vinration kills those things, so rubber mount
till you cant rubber mount no more !

Those gauges look good. Thanks for posting good pics of them. I was curious on how they looked. I think I might pick up a set myself. Keep us posted on how they work out for you.......bike looks killer by the way....nice work!

The mounts you see in the pics come with them....very thick rubber....hopefully that will be enough.

Well, I picked up some yamaha carb cleaner and started tearing down the carbs. My initial try will be to not completely take apart. Just remove the bowls, floats and top covers and soak the whole rack in the cleaner. When I bought the bike it was running pretty good (til I got my flat tire). I did notice that when I came back with trailer to pick it up there was a fair size pool of gas under the bike. I thought maybe it was a stuck float but when I took the bowls off all of the floats moved easily so not sure what caused the gas pool.......any ideas??

Anyway the inside of the carbs looked pretty clean compared to a lot that I have seen posted here so I hope my soaking and putting in new bowl gaskets will be fine.
