Overall I like it.....the side panels not so much.....I wish I could ditch them. Maybe I will try to hide the electric panel and then encase the battery in a black box and leave in place....I think that way it would look ok without the side panels. The panels are from jc whitney and they just don't fit all that well.

Bike is looking killer...
What if you went with the smallest battery you could get away with, and hid the electrics under the seat ?
Is there room under their for a small battery (seat I mean) ? I do agree with ya that if you got that bike "opened up" , it would look that much better...

No, a local shop painted it.....Hair over $200......probably would have cost me at least $100 to do it myself and I doubt it would have turned out as nice so it was worth it to me.

Yea, I am been following the threads on the gel batteries....might be able to make that work and I think there is room under front portion of seat for the electrics. I think for now I will just go with the side panels and get it running and get any issues worked out then focus on that kind of stuff.

Have you given your tire to frame clearence issue any more thought?
Perhaps it will work just fine as it is if your wind the spring tension to the max?

Hi Dan,

Yeah, not going to change anything until I get it off the lift and can hop on the bike and see how close it is to the rear tire. I am guessing I will probably need taller shocks. I am leaving the new chain off until I see if I will need the taller shocks.

Bike looks great man. Been looking at it more than the porn sites lately so that I can get inspired to tear down my own 550. Been studying the pics to check out the clearance between your tires and the flat bar that you welded...you may have a problem. I bought a similar seat from BCR and I only weigh 150lbs and the license plate bracket that I put together rubs everytime I hit a bump. I took a picture so you can see. Are the shocks that you got for the back higher than the stock ones? I was gonna ask Benjie to see what kind of shocks he uses on his bikes.

Just my 2 cents...great work hommie, keep it up so that I can show my girlfriend what parts she can get me to Valentines day!

Wow more than porn!.....this bike really must be turning out nice......

The shocks are stock length. They are hagons.....I am about 95% sure I will need taller ones. I think 1.5 inches taller than stock would probably be about right. I will probably be selling this set here when if I do order taller ones! Sometimes it just doesn't pay to buy things in advance. I should have put the stock shocks back on just to see how the size was prior to buying a new set. Live and learn!

Did you get a tank from benjie as well? I ask because though the stock gas cap transferred fine I am not seeing how I can make the stock petcock work with the new tank.

Doug, You must have caught me cat napping or something. I completely missed the gastank and seat painting. Great job on them. With someone else painting it, you could concentrate on other things. Every time I see your bike, it just looks that much better and I don't know how that is possible cause it was looking fantastic a while back. I'll be glad when you're finished because I'm Running Out Of Words!
I totally understand your putting off the side cover deal until later. I can hardly wait to see the exhaust go on and see what you're gonna do with the rearsets. Changed the way the ingintion switch is mounted moved the starter switch off the bars and next to the ignition. Probably get a nicer toggle or a pushbutton at some point. Just a switch I had lying around. Blew a fuse while testing the backend wiring.....doh.

I'm still rockin the stock tank so i can't really help you with the petcock question, Benjie's usually pretty good about getting back to you and letting you know what to do. By the way, when you mount the seat use lock tight or some other thread locker on the screws, lock washers won't work. I lost the original pair that came with the seat.

I might be interested in buying the shocks you have on from you if the price is right, hit me up if youre looking to sell them. Any luck on pods? Let me know if you find onces that fit.

Mr Brown pants delivered the Uni pod filters today. I used the spray on filter oil. Taped off the chrome part and the neck first then sprayed inside and outside. Tried not to get it on to thick. Kind of stickey mess getting it all installed. But it is done.

Also got al the electrical connections done and the head light put back on.

Pretty much just waiting on custom length throttle cables and fuel petcock and I think I will be ready to start it up......!
