Interesting listing on Craigslist
« on: August 09, 2017, 07:33:15 PM »
Not a scam so far as I can tell - but then that's not the point of this post.

I found the poster bike to be pretty dang interesting - mainly because I've never seen one before

I've ridden an MB5 before.  A guy was selling some other bikes on Craigslist and he was on the fence about selling it.

There are kits available that take an MB-5 to 80cc. It becomes a real screamer. 8) Later in 1990, Honda came out with the NS50, a slightly better looking bike with essentially the same engine. These were some of the few 2-stroke street bikes Honda made.

I took a look at one about ten years ago, partial basket case puddle of oil beneath... owner was asking $350 for it then. I did some research and found some mention of CR80, CR125 and even CR250 engines fitting that frame. A coworker at that time told me he had one in the UK when they were new, and it was a fun bike. Vintage raceable now of course.

The MB50 was only sold for one year in the US. The reason being... it`s 49cc motor allowed it to be in the same motor vehicle category as mopeds..not very fast and no tags required. The MB50 was too fast for the Feds. They can be made considerably faster: the case will accept the CR80 6speed gears, and with an expansion chamber, better reed and some porting...You can actually get a speeding ticket. I have even seen one chopped..

The guy I got my VF500 Interceptor from has one of these sitting in the basement, too. The only reason I didn't pursue it is because he had a strip of vinyl tape on the gas tank that he said was covering some rust....and that tape was bubbling. Gas tanks are hard to find for these. I still think about it, but it would have to be cheap to cover the cost of a replacement tank.

I'm interested. Where was it at?

On the south side of North Royalton, Ohio. On Bennet Road, before W130th.
I will check tomorrow if it's still there.

MB-5 is gone. The guy was rather busy talking to others, so I did not ask him how much it went for.

Oh well. Thanks for checking. I see them pop up from time to time, I'll try for the next one
