new old bike.
« on: August 13, 2017, 07:11:05 PM »
To me a good sohc 4 sitting in a front yard with for sale sign is irresistable. Its like Jennifer Aniston looking for a place to stay for the night. I I bought it. A '72 CB750 with original exhaust and it runs.I paid half of what a repro system costs. One of the pipes has a battery acid stain. My question: would re-chroming fill in the HM341 stamping? I know that re-bluing a gun can destroy collector value as the stampings tend to disappear.

Hi,

You sure are lucky, I never see any good SOHC's sitting out for sale around here... or any bad SOHC's for that matter... ;D

Most chrome shops will not re-chrome exhausts, it would contaminate their tanks.  I've heard of a few instances, but that's not the norm.

How about a few pics.....

I doubt any plating shops would re-chrome the exhaust and if you did find a shop that would the cost would be much higher than buying a repro set of pipes.  If your set of pipes are solid and in good to fair condition then use them.  If you are after looks then I would get a set of repro pipes.

I had my K4 mufflers rechomed at CenTex Plating in Austin.  Coincidentally, there were a pair of older Honda pipes awaiting chrome too

I would love to send some pics. I have a brand new iMac and haven't figured out how to attach photos yet
