I met two guys, father and son at Walcott Ia. truck stop, they were doing Sturgis to Indy non stop. They photographed the odometers with witnesses and were doing iron butt.

A friend of mine stopped into the shop last week for a chat and play catch up. He was transferred to California from Kalamazoo working for Stryker and he loves it and the riding out there. He was telling me he  completed the "Four Corners Tour" for the second time. Check out the link, you have to hit all four corners of the USA in 21 or 26 days or less depending on the package you choose. His 2 year old Harley has over 59,000 miles on it already and is shopping for another new one. Now this guy definitely has an iron ass !!   https://sc-ma.com/rides/usa-four-corners-tour-site/

Good for them! While it is really nice to have the time, passion and money to put a lot of miles on a bike in a short period of time, I really never felt the urge to do an "Iron Butt" ride or anything of that nature. To me, motorcycling is a fun activity. Without the stress to get to a certain destination in a given time. There is a community among motorcyclists which adores and puts these "mileage slaves" on a pedestal.
While I was a member of the BMW MOA, a rider was glorified for putting over 180,000 miles on a bike in one year (!) When I dared to question that, just by crunching some numbers i.e: almost 500 miles per day EVERY DAY for a whole year, or approx. 10 hours riding EVERY DAY for a whole year, which, for a slew of reasons, seemed to be impossible to me, I was crucified by the fan club..

Little girl with her gramps at 4 Corners. He is taking the dog out and she is standing next to him. He warns her to be careful near the rocks because in the desert there are snakes and scorpions. She says this is the desert? He answers, yes, what does it look like to her? She replies "The middle of nowhere."

I thought so too. I told her it was usually both.

A little while back I got an engine from a chopper shop in TN, the picture of the bike looked a lot like this one (needed a fresh, BIG, rebuild). There is a loose "club" around there that builds these SOHC4 scoots, and this one's owner told me on the phone that there are about 300 'members' in the fraternity across 5 States, an interesting group of guys. The minimum engine is 836cc with Megacycle 125-00 cam, and often much more. I've also seen them in 915cc with a big Weber, but all are normally aspirated. The bikes will easily run the ton, all day long. The frames are handmade from the plans that someone came up with. I think of them as a "star chamber" sort of bunch, as they do know their stuff! I have NO idea where the pistons (or rings) came from that were sent to me with the engine: they were conventional cast (not forged) in 65.5mm size, and the cylinders had been bored previously to accept thicker sleeves which easily accepted these slugs, with future oversizes to spare. The skirts were micro-grooved, but not perfectly: mostly the front-rear skirts had the grooves while the pin sides were barely marked, as if someone is making them manually on a lathe.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

He hung out with a group called the HAINTS, I think  from Alabama..
But I checked and there are more of them,  and looks like they originate from Kentucky.
He definitely has a bore kits and maybe more ..but it was just a motor he bought, thinking it was stock.
Great hunch you had, hope he chimes in on here soon.

Overheard during breakfast in Winnemucca, NV - "Can I get another martini?"
So much to do, so little time.
