Re-covering my seat & broke a barb. Easy way to fix?
« on: August 15, 2017, 10:58:13 AM »
Replacing the seat cover on my CB750F. I managed to keep all of the barbs on the pan intact except for one towards the front. Has anyone successfully cut new barbs out of the pan? Any other ways to fix this without buying the strip kit?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Can you even tell? I have broken them before and the others around the broken one hold the cover fine. You can buy tracks of the stuff from reupholstery suppliers or on Ebay that you can pop rivet to the pan if you break a few.

Thanks. Trying to avoid the spike strips for this this one spot. If it was more centered on the side I wouldn't worry about it as much - but it's the front-most one on the right side. There's a trip strip that goes over the whole bit on the sides so maybe a sheet metal screw would work? I was thinking I could maybe use a Dremel to cut out a new barb but wasn't sure how viable a plan that is.

I mentioned the sheet metal screw because I've used them, specifically the wide head ones that are used to assemble metal drywall studs

would rivets work? How hard have you found re-covering your seat so far? I was going to have it professionally done but I think I could save a ton doing it my self.
