Cam cover tunnel
« on: August 15, 2017, 01:19:50 PM »
Hi guys doing some work on a project 1976 550f. Its a horror show under the breather cover it has two sections on the exhaust side of the cam sprocket tunnel missing. Is it toast or can it be run like this.

Sounds like it got eaten up by the cam chain.

The question is where did the missing metal go? Do you feel lucky?!

If you're talking about the lousy holes that get punched in the corners around the sprocket dome, that's normal.

Yeah, I freaked out when I got my "improved" cover from an ebay seller until I realized it was normal.  Whew.

Cheers sounds like exactly what I'm looking at. Just have to remove the two threaded bars used as studs from under the breather cover. And fit a gasket kit as one of the head pucks is just clean not present.

Yep told when I acquired the bike it had a top end rebuild 3000 miles ago. So glad I went in to have a look one of the four bolts under the breather cover not present, two of the others replaced with studs, one puck missing. That's just where I'm at now.
