Balls
« on: November 30, 2019, 12:41:06 PM »
Happy Thanksgiving!
Unlike you lucky guys that do it with the bike stripped down to the chassis, I'm doing it after the fact.  I'm trying to keep from taking the whole bike apart ass I update my front end with the all balls bearing kit.  I have the forks off and the caliper tied out of the way.  Am I going to have to take the headlight off with all its wiring or is there a way I can work around it taking off as few extra parts as necessary.  The only way I can find anything on the internet is starting with the bare chassis.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

stack 4x4 or 2x4 under engine to support, then -
Remove wheel
Remove fork tubes
Remove gas tank
Remove handlebars, lay on frame
Remove top tree
Disconnect wires in headlight
Remove headlight and headlight brackets
Remove lower tree
Reverse to assemble

Ed...... as a precaution, I always run a small ratchet strap from the centre stand lever to somewhere on the frame, ahead of the stand. Pull it snug and that way it is IMPOSSIBLE for the stand to flip up. I know it seems unlikely, but when you are pushing and pulling at the headstock, weird stuff can happen back there. Don’t ask how I know.........

I like to hobble bikes when working on them too. I do it especially when I have bikes on the lift, it is a lot further to the floor. :o

Very good point.  Just getting ready to wail on it to get the races out.  Having nightmares about getting the wiring in the headlight back together.  It's compounded by a H/M relay on the light switch.  Thanks for your help.

I run the strap from the center stand through the front wheel and back to the other side of the center stand or to the front of the frame and back if the wheel is off.
