Mosport 50th GP Anniversary
« on: August 15, 2017, 04:51:32 PM »
Attended the 50th Anniversary of the 1967 Canadian GP at Mosport this past weekend.  What a terrific event put on by the VRRA.  In attendance were some big names that participated in the 67 event and a number of other high profile racers.  Off the top of my head saw Phil Read, Michelle (Mike) Duff, Steve Baker, Yvon Duhamel, Jim Allen, Doug Teague, Craig Morris.  Had an opportunity to meet Brent and Tyler Waller and then have my butt kicked by Tyler on Brent's 550.   ;) It was great meeting them and am looking forward to the next time.  Managed to finish 3rd on my CB550 in P2 Middleweight and 3rd on my RG500 in Vintage GP Heavy.  The down side to racing was not as much time as I wanted to enjoy the bike display and racing greats.  Two of my favorite memories are Steve Baker passing me on a TZ750 (the man can still ride) and Phil Read stopping to chat and share some racing stories in the paddock.  Hope to get some more photos to share, but here is one of me with Phil Read, Bruce Teague, and Doug Teauge.

Congrats on your two podiums. Would like to see pics [add as an attachment]

Mosport is a great track, my brother raced SCCA cars there many times and did fairly well.

Tough drive home Marty? Deb & I left @5 so missed the awards but still, Monday morning I looked like a raccoon! Never let it be said this is easy!  :o

To get on the podium twice in your first outing at Mosport says a lot, congratulations. By the way your bike sounds great, forgot to mention this.

I asked George if he'd post some bike pictures from the VIP tent. Mind if he puts them here?

Congrats on the great results. I walked past your pits a couple times(no one around) and snapped a couple of photos of your bike. Beautiful!

The drive home took all night.  Pulled in the driveway at 5am.  Good that two friends were with me to share the driving.  Even so I was beat!  Can't do all night drives like we did in our 20's and 30's!  Encourage anyone with photos, stories, and results from the event to post them here to share.

Sorry I missed you Tim.  Thanks for the comment.

Thanks George. In the second photo & on my bike is a man who owned the shop where I first worked. He started racing in 63 & raced in 500 class (on a CB450) for the 67 GP, where he finished 8th. It was cool to offer him a ride for the parade laps.

The Rocket 3 was the bike Dick Mann won Daytona in 71. It's pretty trick. The Surtees AJS7R and the Arter Special G50 were quite interesting. The Arter bike was raced by Michelle Duff in 67 and she again rode it Saturday. Both bikes are lightweight, had smooth & easy clutch pull, quick light throttles and very forward thinking setups. No wonder they stood out in the day.
