Speedometer Gauge Plate
« on: August 20, 2017, 01:35:03 PM »
Hello

I thought that I could very easily change the chrome speedometer gauge plate because the original is damaged. I faced a small problem because the light bulbs aluminium socket does not have enough room to come off from the hole on the gauge plate.

Are these aluminium sockets available because I don't think that I'm able to disassemble the socket and re-use it? Of course I would be able to use a different kind of socket but the rubber cover is designed for this specific socket.

Hmm...

What bike?
I'm not exactly sure what part of the speedometer you are referring to.
Do you mean this part?

Can you post a photo of your problem?

Four-K 500 1978 is the bike and the part is correct; that's the one I'm going to replace.

There's a cable going in from the hole on the gauge plate. This cable is for the two light bulbs on the speedometer. The sockets for the bulbs won't fit from the hole so I guess the only way is to remove the sockets to get the cables out. Still I don't think I'm able to keep them re-usable because the hot-wire is not fastened with a screw or anything else replaceable.

You may have to unplug the other end of the wires inside the headlight?

That would explain the issue.

Oh my god... :-[ Sometimes you need this forum just to think clearly. That's exactly what had to be done; disassembly from the other end. Thanks.
