1969 Honda Cub 90 (CM91) - Almost Done (hopefully)

Going to look at a 1969 Honda Cub 90 that has a clean Title and is in Running Condition (who knows how well  ::)).

Comes with an extra cylinder head and carb.  $700

This is right up our alley and is something I've been keeping an eye for a while now.  Will probably be an intro machine for my wife to use while we work to rebuild her Superhawk.  She's a new rider. 

Any nay say about this machine or the price?

Rose shares the sentiment :) This would technically be her's for around town as the little sister to her SuperHawk. 

I think the left peddle has to do with the Semi-Auto Clutch.  Reading up on it now as I know nothing about these machines.

The left pedal is the shifter, works just like any normal manual motorcycle, except for it automatically disengages the clutch as it shifts.

Also, the shift pattern on most of these step-throughs is backwards of "normal".   Pressing the lever down (toe) is up shift, up (or down the heal) is down shift.

Thanks for that insight!  That will help me not look like an idiot when I test drive it tomorrow  ;D

CT70's (Trail 70) are the same, though, the later ones have a normal shift pattern (my '91 did, so, 91-94 definitely did).    IIRC, I recall reading that sometime in the early 80's the CT90 got a normal shift pattern too, so, maybe the later cubs did as well.   The 69 definitely doesn't.

My Guzzi Eldorado, which will be on the road soon also has the reversed shift pattern -- should be interesting, though, if I can ride my Ducati 250 Monza that has that shift pattern, AND, on the right side of the bike, I should be OK.

I have the Honda shop manual that covers the C200 and CT200, and can scan any pages you may need.

Hey Scott....I think the designation is a Honda Super Cub 90 or "C90".   I'll post more pics/info once i get it home.

The first Honda I ever rode was a CT200, circa 1965. The first Honda I owned was a C200, circa 1968. ;D

Dang Scottly, my first motorcycle to was a C200 also1964 (I think). Rode the snot outta that thing and never a lick of trouble.

Don't try to pull the left handle for a clutch.......it will apply the rear brake IIRC.

Looks like no clutch on this one (auto-clutch)...only right handle front brake.

My C200 was a 1966 model. I paid $200 for it, and beat the poor thing to death, but it always ran, which could not be said for my buddy's Suzuki 80 of the same year. ;) I first learned to MIG weld repairing cracks in the stamped sheet-metal frame, swing-arm, and front forks. :o

Picked up the Cub tonight.  Best I can tell it's official model designation is a CM91.  All in all it's mostly there except for the Carb. 

Has some Keihin knock off with a silly wooden spacer.  Original carbs aren't cheap or easy to find. Trying to decide if I'm just going to try a Mikuni VM20 or something.

Funny...and I thought I was buying something with tons off parts around  ::)  You called it as well...the fairing has a crack in it.

Many Parts ordered :) 

- Mikuni 19mm Carb with rotating intake adapter to allow for frame clearance.  2-1 Remote Petcock.
- Repro Leg Shield (original cracked but ok for general use)
- new Black and White Seat
- Tons of OEM Honda Gaskets, seals, and such
- New grooved brake shoes, Sealed Battery, wheel bearings, Drive Chain, fuel Line, Footpeg rubbers, etc..

Very likely going to send the Block to DrATV for their Big Bore Cylinder Job (bored with new piston, rings, gasket). 

Cant wait...should be a fun bike and a great learner for rose while we get her CB77 going.

I think this one is all the way up for 1st...down half a click ish' for neurtal....then down for 2/3

On my ST90 engine with the high performance Dr ATV cam, I needed to up the size of the main jet to about a 76.   It was running quite lean with the stock 68 main in it.  Overall, that cam and the bigger main jet only gave me maybe 2 mph of an increase in top speed so don't expect miracles.
