Futura camshaft
« on: August 28, 2017, 05:09:45 am »
This popped up in the discussion on another thread. Anyone heard of Futura? What's with the bearing for the one end?
Can anyone "translate" those cam specs and give a comparison to, say, a Web cam or something? Is this hot street, full race, etc., ?

No idea. I suppose it's meant to fix a bad head journal.

were made in italy when production racing was hot here in the early seventies

futura cams dont have good reputation, there are well documented cases where the lobe shapes were totally wrong, causing terminal engine fatalities   ::)

the end bearings were an odd feature of these cams,

get a proven megacycle and dont waste your time/money/good engine parts on this

In any case, to me it looks like a 400 cam rather than a 500's, but not sure...

I have a stage 2 futura in my garage, and I used it on my CB500 cafe racer. I didn't have reliability problems, but then again I didn't use it much...

The one in the auction has full race specs, I agree with Yoss: for that money, you can get a modern equivalent quite easily.
The bearings on the side are nonsense to me :-)
