New '75 400F Owner - Help!
« on: September 08, 2017, 12:01:25 PM »
I apologize, I didn't see a specific 400F forum. Hopefully this is the right spot.

I just brought home a 1975 400F with a handful of issues: missing rear signals, improper headlamp (needs bezel and lamp, maybe new housing also), seized front brake (master?), and a mangled sidestand mount. Hopefully I didn't bite off more than I can chew.

Anyone know any good Honda shops in Northern New England (I'm in Maine)? I've spoken with Twisted Iron Customs, which is a few hours East of me on the coast. I'd like someone to take a look at this kickstand and see what that will require before I spend $100's on the missing/incorrect parts.

Also any good Honda specific salvage yards? I need the stalks and hardware for the rear signals, along with a headlamp bezel and some other hardware.

More direct questions:
1.) Aftermarket Brake Master Rebuild from David Silver - OK? Or shell out on OE Honda?
2.) Recommendations for headlamp replacement: Candlepower 6 3/8" unit with a 45w bulb?
3.) Tire recommendations - Metzler Block C, Bridgestone BT45? Others?
4.) Air filter: seems none are available... go to pods and re-jet, don't re-jet? Thoughts?
5.) OE-muffler. Same as air filter, looks like David Silver had reproduction ones for $160 at one point. Other sources?
6.) Other reliability updates or wisdom for a SOHC-newb who's used to fuel-injected stuff 40+ years newer?

Thanks everyone, I'll try to get some pictures as I go. For those of you in Maine, maybe see you at Owl's Head around this time next year.

First off, there is no 400F specif area, so you are good. I dont have a 400, but can answer some of your questions.

1.  Yes, DSS sells a good repoped master cylinder [not rebuilt]. Many of us dont rebuild em anymore as it is not cost effective [and a pain].

3. Both are very good as well as Avon, Dunlop and IRC. I avoid Chinese.

4.  No pods!  May be hard to tune for a rookie. Here is one, but kinda pricey

4into1 is a good seller but out of stock

The 400 experts can help you with the other stuff.  Post pics of the kickstand so we can advise.  Good luck!

1.) OE or D.S. either would be fine.
2.) The factory that made the CP/45 small lights was in Japan it closed. (think radiation) Would need a bit of luck to score one
3.) Can't help with this one
4.) D.S. usually has them?
5.) D.S. is about the best bet for the exhaust if you want a new look, NOS of fleabay is in the heart attack area.
I don't know what 6 is you thinking about injection for it?

Make sure you post up a add in the wanted forum before you buy, pretty sure a few guys may help you.
