1973 Z1 with ATP turbo kit. Slightly raked frame, box section swingarm, ELR shocks, aluminium rims with stainless steel spokes, turbo pistons, modified oil pump/oil pan, 42mm Mikuni 42mm flatslide carb, Dyna 2000 ignition and more...
Fast, but unstable at very high speed
That's a beautiful bike mate, the original factory Z1's were scary fast but I could never understand the rationale behind the turbo's, the stock frame couldn't handle the 88 BHP (at the crank) of the stock engine, let alone that of a turbo conversion, ha ha!
I had a 1975 model with (supposedly) some factory frame improvements, and I added Marzocchi strada shocks, progressive springs with heavier oil, an S&W airkit, fork brace, steering damper, tapered steering head bearings and new swingarm bearings and finally new (then) Pirelli Phantom tires, and it was still a pig!
Ah well, in a straight line at least, it was heaven on a stick! Cheers, Terry.
