Front Fork Leak - CB750K3
« on: September 01, 2017, 06:52:48 AM »
My 1973 CB750K3 is leaking oil from the front forks.  I know that the correct answer here is to rebuild the forks/new seals to fix the leak.  However, I am wondering if anyone out there has experimented with an alternate fork fluid mix that will slow or stop the leak until I have time to rebuild.  I've heard of various off the shelf products that advertise that they stop leaks.  Wondering if anyone has tried maybe mixing one of these with the fork oil to slow or stop a leak. Thank you for your feedback.

Like cal said you need to replace your seals at the very least. There may be other issues like a groove in your fork tube like I had (from when the PO decided sliding a piece of pop can in the seal would somehow help the leaking situation.  :o)
Sometime ya just gotta fix it and get it over with.

Agreed...rebuild them as short cuts are a waste of your time and your money. Small knick can be fixed.

Can't argue with the other guys. Just rebuild them.

It's really not that hard. Search on YouTube "Hackaweek CB750" and he has a video of the whole process.

He mistakingly installs the seals upside down, so do the opposite when it gets to that part.

If it's leaking due to pitting in the tubes, the pits can be cleaned and filled with superglue and then sanded with super fine sandpaper flat.

This stuff works wonders for jobs that for some reason or another can't be done the right way.  8)

I use JB Weld on the nicks and sand it out flat with super fine paper. Has been very productive for me.
