« on: September 03, 2017, 07:48:26 AM »
Hi guys I have two rocker arms that have no spring tension on them at all, what would be the cause and repair of this problem?

Sorry not a clear description the valve cover is removed from the bike and two of the rocker arms are just flapping about no spring tension at all. The rest spring down and return if pushed upwards.

Like he said bent valves.. 500 or 550 I bet.
Try pushing those valves down with a dowel or broom handle... now try one of the others.
Order headgasket now.

Quite funny the complaint about no clear description, when there was no presentation of make and model engine in question.

The only springs in the SOHC4 valve train are the valve springs.

Since we can only speculate, I suspect that the valve cover/ cylinder cover was installed without regard for the shop manual warnings about valve stem interference with the rocker adjuster.  Hence bent valves that now prevent the rocker for "springing".
Its a $200 or more mistake, about.

If it's a 550's valve cover - I've say you have two rocker arms that are moving normal and 6 others that need cleaned up.
Provided everything else is kosher.

Apologies for being an absolute tool, very tired and stupid. Everything working as should be, the rocker arms springing back where the ones that still had the rubber bands on from fitting the cover. I have a manual and the bike is a 76 550f.

You need to put some red bull in your coffee man :D

How are the rocker shaft bores looking?  Depending on milage and DPO history, you might have "the curse".

vhen teighten dovn the cover..its normal, that there is tension on more valvets...so its is not a" click dovn easy fit"..you need to teight it dovn use the bolts to pull it dovn..thats vhy so many fzuck it..you have no feell if it goes bad or good...but use the rubber band tricks..and Loose up the adjusters..vill give some help..but it never a easy job :P

but have the cover  on place..turn the engine and the valve set vill turn Loose at the tight timing time..(.or you have serios problems)
