SG103 piled on fairly early to steal the beemerbum's thread...maybe he should take his sidetracked discussion to his own thread instead of adding chaff to the original poster's thread.
Sell your nice original bike for a project bike that does not have a collection of original parts given its 15k miles...

They are only original once and if well cared for or just a good job of caring for it the bike will be far more valuable as original.  Unless your vision is lined up with someone else's your market to sell your bike is going to be small, unless they are going to chop up your efforts  to make it their own.

Most current Cafe/Bobber/Brat bikes are just the parts bikes of the future, I should stock up on standard un-cut frames, forks, fenders and whatever else gets thrown to build a rolling POA (Piece Of Art) nowadays, in anticipation...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I live by the rules of: buy what moves you, build what you like, ride what you enjoy. It's your money, it's your bike. Why ask for opinions on making your own decisions about how you spend yuor time and your money?

Whether you spend $1,200 or $12,000 it's all about the time on a bike, the enjoyment, the fulfillment. Personally, I ride for me- not for anyone else. Couldn't care less if there was another bike on the road or it was filled with them. Yes, I enjoy riding with family and friends, but I'll ride alone just as often because that's what I love to do and how I recharge my soul.

Holy sh*t - I agree with Cal on something ;D.

Your bike, your build. We all have our opinions. I like total stockers. Doesn't mean there aren't some cool cafe's choppers etc. out there. First bike I fell in love with (at 10) was a Triumph Chopper with straight bars. I wouldn't buy or make that bike now - but dude, your bike your build. Just don't f*ck it up for the sake of "one of a kind". That's not always the nicest thing to say about a bike.

Edit: Cal, just kiddin' around. your 'lectric's knowledge is legendary.

Thanks for thinking of my build Jerry Joe Jnr, well I believe choosing the right oil is critical when re-awakening a beast that hasn't been run in several years, so I intend to use the cheapest possible oil available from my local supermarket. My redneck reasoning being that it'll still be better than the stuff that we could buy when our bikes were new, and if the engine's fcuked, I haven't wasted good money that I could have otherwise spent on cheap booze.

Once I've (hopefully) determined that the engine is not indeed fcuked, I'll do a few hundred miles to wash all the crap into the filter, dump it out along with the filter and probably use some slightly better quality oil, maybe one of them fancy pants semi-synthetics I've been reading about? Not "Motorcycle" oil mind, I think we all know that "Motorcycle" oil is just a world wide conspiracy allowing the Illuminati to get even richer flogging car oil in a fancy container for twice the dough, so it'll be a semi-synthetic car, truck or lawn mower oil for me. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks LBB, I'd feel sorry for hijacking the OP's thread, but it looks like he abandoned it pretty much after his first post, so I think there's plenty of scope for arguing about oil, tyres, steering dampers, politics and gay marriage, before some hall monitor, er, I mean moderator comes along and shoots down our fun........ ;D
