I still have the molds for the ignition switch, front fender, rear hugger, and seat. These parts are 100% carbon fiber. No layers of fiberglass to add thickness. Most people wouldn't pay what's it worth for me to go through the trouble.  The seat weighs less than the four seat bolts that hold it down.

Hugger straight out of mold. Fits cb500t cb550 cb450 cb350 might fit a cb750, not sure.  Fits the cb550 super sport

Interesting that carbon fiber work hasn't been more prolific in the "classic" moto scene - the tech has been around a long time, especially with bicycles. Nice to see it here and such good work.

Maybe it's more prevalent than I know?

I can't make anymore tanks. The resin isn't EPA Compliant. It's no longer allowed in the US. i can make a tank but it's gonna leak. All fuel in the US has injector cleaner, emulsifiers, etc. it will dissolve the tank over time. Even if it doesnt break through, resin gets into the fuel and your spending more time cleaning carbs than ridding. Ethanol just makes it worse. I'm lucky I live in FL; well not right now with hurricane Irma, I can buy ethanol free gas. But I never leave it in a composite tank. Always drain it when I get home, fill up with new on the next ride. Run the old stuff in my mower; Brigs and Stratton. It would probably run on salad dressing.

I get that, but a lot of ppl spend a lot of money on things that don't actually improve mileage and performance (i.e. weight loss). I'd be interested in carbon fiber wheels, just for an example. Probably can't afford 'em, but it seems like they should exist.

Understand. I only use ethanol free in all my bikes.
 I'm still in for 2 rear huggers and a seat then. If you are. Good luck with the storm.

Shorty- a solution for the tank is to line it with Caswell. Other producers do this already as it is the only means to prevent the issue you're describing, as well as it prevents the fuel from leaking out during a crash (should the tank crack or split open).

So that might be an option to isolate the tank material from the fuel and Carswell is less than $50 for a tank our size.

It's not just the sealer but the vinyl ester resin. That's why carpy also doesn't sell his tanks any longer. Fiberglass tanks should be compression molded, gel coat on both the inside and outside nice smooth surface without pin holes. Makes an ok bonding surface for caswell. Carbon fiber tank isn't gel coated on either side. Cast well, por15, doesn't matter.  It's not gonna seal it permanently. Carbon is to expensive to make mistakes, especially on large pieces. I don't do this for a living, so I'm paying retail for supplies. It's not just the ethanol, every gallon of gas in the US has fuel injection cleaner in it. Composites dissolve in that stuff.

Fantastic Work!  Love the carbon bits.  Where about in FL are you.  I'm in Orlando and recently finished up my own CB550, albeit with a lot less custom fab work than you've done.
