Topic: 1973 CB 350 Four carb cleaning

I let this bike sit in a hot garage too long in Florida and the gas varnished on me and gummed the carbs. Shipped the carbs to NJ for a good cleaning.

Got my carbs all disassembled and ready for cleaning. I've gotten some useful info off the internet, but would appreciate any advice on what to look for in soaking the carb bodies. What internal air "circuits" are there and what should I look for in making sure they are clean?

Got a new compressor to provide air. Ready to get stinky with the Berryman's.

By the way, a very happy holiday to all in SOHC land. Can't wait to get this bike running again--

Here is the link to the Carb FAQ. Check it out and do a search on Carb Cleaning in the regular posts - this is s a subject that has been covered in great detail over and over - so I wont repeat here again. Its a right of passage for SOHC owners! Just work slow, and be thorough. Good Luck

As a matter of course I recommend you replace the idle & main jets.  No matter how well you clean them they may still be worn.  I replaced mine after rebuilding the top end of my CB350/4 & the difference was amazing.

I have yet to see a worn main or idle jet.

What does wear are the needles and the float valves.

Especially the float needles - impossible to set float height properly if they are not sealing.

blocked jets.. yes ..

worn jets -- very very very rare .. unless they are physically damaged ( for example widening the passages with a wire while cleaning )  ..
