throttle cable adjustment
« on: September 07, 2017, 04:59:35 PM »
i'm not understanding what this "throttle override" business is all about in the owner's manual on pages 49-50.  can anyone explain this?  it's seems redundant.  either your throttle is closed or you are opening the throttle with a slight bit of play between closed and starting to open.

I interpret it as the small amount of play between the fully closed position of the throttle, and the throttle position that first begins to actually cause movement down the line.

Honestly though, I never thought much about it.

Refer to the manual -- we are not supposed to understand this, but simply take it to an authorized Honda dealer.

Thanks for giving me the confidence to ignore this. So my next question is how much play should there be in the throttle? I've got almost a 1/4".

The play will change with steering angle, so have some grip play where it is tightest.
The over-ride is, I think, the springed plate on the throttle shaft that lets you crank the throttle and force the cable wheel to turn without forcing the slide mechanism too much.

+1 set cable free play with bars at full lock turn.

Had that issue with a vtx1800.  I set the cables with the bars centered, but it would open the butterflies when turned to the right 😜
